People have the freedom to make choices, but they do not have freedom from consequences. ~Vincent Muli Kituku

Philosophy Of Discipline

The discipline policy of Indian Hills Middle School is built on the principles of fairness, firmness, and consistency and is exercised in an atmosphere of caring and concern.  The discipline policy at Indian Hills Middle School is designed to create an environment conducive to learning and one that permits teachers and students to work in a safe place and one free from physical and emotional harm.  It also provides opportunities for students to develop purpose, self-esteem, self-control and emerging adult social skills.  In a safe environment, students learn to function effectively in society and learn to balance the needs of groups and individuals so that skills of self-control and self-reliance are developed.  In order to create this environment, students are expected to obey local and state laws as well as district and school policies.  Furthermore, they are expected to conform to standards of polite society.  Therefore, a student will be subject to disciplinary action if his/her behavior disrupts learning, could be harmful, or violates the law or District/school policy, or does not conform to society’s standards of decency, politeness, honor, and honesty.

All students have certain rights once they enter school property.  All students have the right to acquire a quality education in a safe environment.  All students have the right to be treated with respect.  All students have the right to express their thoughts and feelings in an appropriate manner.

With these rights come certain responsibilities. All students are expected to be responsible for the following:
