1. Principal’s Message
As we ring in the new year of 2024, I have a few thoughts to share as we approach the halfway point of the school year.
It has been and continues to be a pleasure for me to be the principal at Indian Hills Middle School. Our students, staff, and school community are exceptional people, and I feel privileged to be a part of this team. I love that I know so many more students than I did when school began in August. I love that I’m getting to know our community members, and I love that I am seeing more of the good that this school has to offer and also noting where we can improve.
It brings to mind a comment that one of our students made after the performing arts assembly a few weeks ago. She asked me after school that day, “Ms. Karren, did you see me dance during the assembly?” “Yes, of course,” I replied. “No,” she insisted, “Did you see me, I mean just me, not all of the others dancing at the same time?” As she spoke, it dawned on me that this was a matter of sincerest importance; she wanted to be seen, not just as one of many, but to be seen, known, and recognized. It was a reminder that every student in our school wants and needs to be seen by caring adults and peers.
As the new semester begins and as a new year dawns, let us all remember how important it is to see and to understand those around us. Happy New Year!
