What does it take to have a great interview? Come to Indian Hills and ask any of Miss McGowan’s Honors ELA students. Over the last two school months, students have been reading four award-winning books with their Honors ELA book clubs. Each week in September and October, the book clubs met to discuss the plot, characters, themes, and conflicts in preparation for their end-of-unit assessment, an interview with a Canyons School District figure. The interviewers included: the district’s superintendent, the district’s human resources director, the district’s director of middle schools, the school’s principal and assistant principals, the school’s teacher-librarian, and district achievement coaches.
Students prepped at home by practicing the standard questions each interviewer would ask. Just like in a real-life job interview, Miss McGowan’s students were not aware which question would be asked for each book title. Being able to think on your feet is such an important career and college ready skills. Miss McGowan’s students will have a leg-up when they apply for their first job!
