Dear Indian Hills Middle School Community:

Last week after school, I noticed one of our students taking around some holiday gifts to his teachers. He was so excited to give his teachers a gift, and it was heartwarming to see his enthusiasm. It certainly made his teachers smile.

Should any of you be wondering about a way you can give something positive to our school this holiday, I would encourage you give some words of kindness to our teachers. As we all know, a note of gratitude can go such a long way. To do so, click here: https://forms.gle/HR6TmoFoUFwdGAJw9 and leave a kind message for one of your student’s teachers. These notes will be delivered to our teachers before the holiday break. Thank you for taking a little time to make a big difference!

Grade Level Team Attendance Competition: The past two weeks we have been keeping track of grade level teams’ attendance. On one day during that stretch over 1,000 students were on time to every class. It was amazing! The attendance competition will conclude on Friday. Good luck, students!

Performing Arts Concerts: Tis the season for our musical students to perform in their concerts. We applaud our concert choir students for their efforts this past week. Orchestra, percussion and band will perform this week. We will also have assemblies during the day on Thursday, December 14th where our choir, instrumental music and dance students will perform for their peers.

Remote Learning Days due to Weather: If inclement weather is in the forecast, teachers will work with students to make sure they have the materials and assignments they need to learn from home. Middle and high school students will log in to the Canvas dashboard for each of their classes and work their way through their regular course schedules. Teachers will be available on remote-learning days via email and connect with students through Canvas and Zoom or Google Meet.

Contact Info Updates for District Alerts: It’s important each year for families to log in to Skyward Family Access to update their contact information and settings. New this year: Parents can sign up to receive text messages in addition to emails and phone calls. For help updating Skyward settings, please call 801-826-5544

A Reminder to Charge your Chromebooks: We have noticed that more of our students are coming to school without charging their Chromebooks. Being prepared is an expectation we have for all of our students, and there are only a limited number of extra Chromebooks available for use in the classroom if students are not prepared. We encourage all students to give some extra focus to this task in the coming weeks.

Incoming 6th Grade Orientation in January: It’s never too early to remind our school community that on Tuesday, January 30th we will host an orientation for next year’s 6th grade students and their parents from 6:00-7:30 p.m. More details will be provided as the date approaches.

Warrior Support

What it looks like for Students:

● Students MUST arrive between

3:00-3:15 in order to participate in

Warrior Support.

● Students sit at the front of the

library at the tables.

● Students scan a QR code that takes

them to a Google Form they fill out.

● Students ask the teachers questions

and work on homework quietly.

● If teachers are not immediately

available, students work on what

they can while waiting patiently for

help.

● Only students who need help stay

for Warrior Support. Students who

do not need the support will head

home after 3:30.

● Students who are not following

expectations for library behavior

will be invited to return another day

for help.

● Students should submit the Google

Form at the END of the time they

spend in the library to report what

they accomplished with the time.

● Students must exit the library

through the doors to the outside,

not back into the building.

Purpose: To give students extra support from a teacher to help with

homework or concepts not understood during class time.

What it looks like for Teachers:

● Teachers come to the library

immediately after 7th period.

● Teachers help students with the QR

code to sign into the Google Form.

● Teachers circulate among students,

offering help.

● Teachers invite students who are

not following expectations to leave

and try again another day.

● Teachers ensure that every students

who is in the library after 3:30 is

here for Warrior Support.

● Library doors will be locked at 3:30

when Miss McGowan leaves. After

this, teachers ensure that students

in the library are here for Warrior

Support only.

● Teachers have students submit the

form to report what they

accomplished during the Warrior

Support time. Then students exit

through the outside door (not into

the hallways), tidy up the library,

and turn off the lights before

leaving.
